The art of hand soldering has been around for thousands of years, but it was not until 1941 that a transformer-based instant heating soldering method was developed by an impatient American radio repairman who was tired of waiting for his soldering gun to heat up. This man, Carl E. Weller, had to wait until after World War II ended in 1945 to get his Weller Manufacturing Company going.

In 1960, the Weller Manufacturing Co. in the US patented the "Magnastat" soldering iron, which used a magnetic component to regulate the temperature at the iron's tip. Concurrent with this, the company began an expansion overseas in 1959, with the establishment of the Weller GmbH plant in Besigheim, Germany, and new plants in other countries, to manufacture temperature-controlled irons and soldering guns primarily for industrial markets throughout Europe and the Near East.

Keeping pace with the increasing complexity of their customers' needs, Weller Germany became the market leader for developing and manufacturing hand soldering products worldwide. Their products were proudly emblazoned with "Made in Germany," signifying innovation and reliability.

The Weller WSA350 is a bench-top smoke absorber that removes flux fumes from a soldering workbench, especially useful for workspaces using more active fluxes with lead-free solder. The fumes are absorbed by the replaceable carbon-activated filter, which includes one replacement filter (WSA350F). The stand allows the smoke absorber to be adjusted to varying angles, and the fan is quiet, ensuring it does not add significant noise to the workspace. The device is also ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) safe.

This smoke absorber is an essential tool for workspaces using more active fluxes, as it effectively removes the harmful flux fumes, creating a safer and more comfortable working environment. The inclusion of a replacement filter and the adjustable stand, along with the quiet fan operation, make the Weller WSA350 a versatile and convenient solution for soldering workbenches.
